2026 Scholarship
Support the future of birding with a contribution to the Walter ‘Ski’ Szymanski Scholarship Fund. Each year our member-funded scholarship allows one young birder, age 8-13, to attend a weeklong outdoor birding experience sponsored by the Bird Conservancy of the Rockies.
The 2026 scholarship will cover the full registration fee for next summer’s “birding day camp” at the conservancy’s Environmental Learning Center at Barr Lake State Park, near Brighton. Young birders from Broomfield and surrounding communities are welcome to apply.
Applications will be available once the conservancy announces 2026 camp dates.
Your support is an investment in the next generation of birders. Click on the “Give” button below to support the scholarship fund today. Please write "2026 Scholarship" on the Donation page.
You may also pay by check; please note “2026 Scholarship” on the subject line. Contact us and we will get back to you with instructions for sending your check.
About the scholarship
The Broomfield Bird Club’s annual scholarship honors the memory of Walter “Ski” Szymanski, an expert birder, ace photographer and one of the founding members of the Broomfield Bird Club. Previous scholarship recipients are Maylin Hewing (2025) and Kael Giron (2023 and 2022).
